The interior of your space can change by simply adding or subtracting a certain item. If you add a candle, painting, a throw, or change the colour of a wall from white to grey, your space will look different. Small changes can sometime do wonders and change the atmosphere in a room. Most importantly, achieving positive energy is what makes a certain space successful and long lasting. Throughout my interior design career and travels around the world I discovered that positive energy can be achieved through many ways. The only issue is some may lack the experience or over do it which in return may have the opposite effect on their atmosphere. Below are some ways to achieve positive energy in your own home: 1- Clean your space! Don't be a hoarder and get rid of all the clutter and mess in your drawers and under the bed. Yes! it matter even if you don't see it. Remember positive energy is something you feel and not see. 2- Decide on the colour of the walls based on the room that you are designing. Stay away from colours that are loud and stick to colours that are more in pastel family 3- In my decoration, I always find that using black and white accentuate the space around you. This allows the space to be held together while giving it some edges and borders. 4-Make sure you do not block or cover any source of natural light. 5- When you decorate try to mix these four elements - Water Fire Air Earth

Colour is a powerful tool that effects perception that we don't see , such as taste. It also effects the mood, memory and even plant growth! In Art and design, colour is always associated with emotion. It reflects the inner feeling that people tend to not show or express. People who love to travel go for blue, green, while other who admire the theatre tend to go for black or purple. Learning about colour psychology and the impact it has on our lives is important when decorating our home. Colour Psychology RED : Known to be the colour of fire and passion. Many use red to increase their energy level and motivate themselves while exercising. It is known to be a colour that bonds people together and mainly used in dining rooms to stimulate conversation. Avoid using too much red as it can increase the blood pressure level and stimulate anger and frustration. BLUE : Lowers blood pressure and is a great choice for a relaxed and calm mood. Blue reminds us of holidays, travel, experience and good times on the beach. It is known to be one of the positive colours in the world. Dark blue is mainly used in throws , pillows , and material. It is related to sunlight, energy and fun. Yellow is known to be the colour of wisdom and strength. However if you use it on big spaces like the walls of your bedroom it might have a negative effect and bring out feelings of anger and frustration . GREEN : Colour of Nature! It is a colour that is easy on the eye and can be used in the kitchen , living room , dining room , corridors and in almost every room as it always blends well with other colours. Green reflects simplicity and joy in life. PURPLE : Dark purple such as eggplant , is a very dramatic colour, reminds us of ancient time, history, theatre and Harry Potter perhaps! It is a colour that holds wisdom , value and romance. Purple is a colour that works well with other colours such as emerald green, off-white and yellow. Violate is used in bedrooms as it is a more relaxed tone of purple for the eye and soul. ORANGE : A fun and energetic colour that symbolises adventure and courage . It is believed that orange is a healing and therapeutic colour especially for the heart, lungs and soul. It effects your 5 senses especially your smelling and eye sight. BLACK : In todays fashion black is always a style, a way to reflect our minimal choices of life. Some cultures use black to reflect sadness, depression or loneliness. In interior design black can be used in spaces with minimal use such as a pillow that has neutral stripes on it. When you use black in a smart and correct way it will add depth to your space . Just like when you paint, dark shaded areas add depth and interesting look to your art piece. WHITE : Peaceful, fresh colour which reminds us of clean linens and cotton. You never go wrong with white. White is a safe colour and is a favourite among many. White symbolises youth and innocence. If you live in a small space such as a studio or your bedroom is small. go for white, while mix it with one bold colour and one neutral colour. The bedroom is one of the important areas in our home. Colour, textile and furniture are all major key factors of how comfortable the space around us is. Most of us buy the Home decor magazines or watch celebrity homes style and design and feel bad about our own space. Well, their are some ways to change that. 1- FREE YOUR SELF FROM YOUR CLUTTER
Of course the first thing you need to do is throw away everything that you haven't used for the past 6 month. I mean those jeans that you have hanging behind your door, or a bunch of t-shirts that you haven't used for a long time. Yes, you need to get rid of your clutter. 2- DECORATIVE PILLOWS Layer pillows. The pillows you sleep on should be placed against the bed head. The other decorative pillows should be placed according to height. You can play with colour and texture to make it look more interesting and add a focus point to your bedroom . Try to stick to one colour palette if you tend to add more than 4 pillows . 3- LAMP SHADES Adding pretty and colourful lamp shades will give your bedroom a glamorous look for less. You can change the lamp shade cover by going for cool colours, soft fabrics. 4- MATTRESS Your bed will never be complete without a beautiful well made mattress. If you are not getting good sleep, then you won't be able to enjoy your bedroom and relax. 5- GO GREEN 🍃 You can add a plant or two in your bedroom to give your room an airy look and feel. Some of you may not like to commit to taking care of a plant. Simply your can buy fake a plant and place it somewhere close or beside a window where the sunlight reflect on the green shades of the plant. 6- CLUTTER DECOR A nice trick that you can do is simply get a pretty dark coloured tray add a candle , magazine and place it on the floor beside the bed. Keep some of your books on your night stand, throw a small blanket on the sofa ( if you have one in your bedroom ) or you can simply get 2 big pillow and throw them on the floor in front of the bed . This will maintain the warm and cozy feeling while keeping your room pretty and comfortable. 7- BLANKET When you buy your blanket make sure the material is soft . Go for cotton, silk or wool and place it in front the bottom down of your mattress. Don't buy the fleet cheap kind, it will look tacky. 8- CURTAINS This is really important. Most people tend to buy curtains and never wash them for the next 5 years! This is really bad for you and your environment. Please wash your curtains, the colour will become bright again and it will also smell clean. |
